As BroadwayWorld previously reported, Emily Blunt is in talks to join Disney's film adaptation of Stephen Sondheim's musical Into the Woods, directed by Rob Marshall. Now, sources have told The Wrap that that Christine Baranski, who was part of the original reading last October, is in talks to take on the role of Cinderella's evil stepmother. (more...)

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Chris Pine and Jake Gyllenhaal are in talks to join Johnny Depp, Meryl Streep and James Corden in Disney's film adaptation of Stephen Sondehim's musical INTO THE WOODS. If cast, these would be the actors' first on-screen singing roles. Pine and Gyllenhaal are likely being considered for the roles of Cinderella and Rapunzel's princes, a pair of competitive, arrogant men in search of true love. (more...)

INDUSTRY INSIGHT: Weekly Grosses Analysis - 5/13; PIPPIN and BETTE Break Records

Two record breakers this week, I'LL EAT YOU LAST, Bette Midler's return to Broadway, has broken the box office record at the Booth Theatre. The production grossed $865,144 for the week ending May 12, 2013. This marks the second consecutive week the production has set the box office record at the Booth. The production's previous record of $753,217 was set the week ending May 5, 2013. Also, the new Broadway production of PIPPIN has broken the house record for the Music Box Theatre (239 West 45th Street) grossing $861,513 over eight performances for the week ending May 12, 2013.
