The South Camden Theatre Company, a nonprofit professional theatre organization located in Camden, New Jersey opens a weekend-long festival starting Friday January 20 at 8p.m. The production includes two works written by Tennessee Williams with a production of “The Case of The Crushed Petunias” directed by Producing Artistic Director Joseph M. Paprzycki and a staged-reading by an all-African American cast of “The Glass Menagerie” directed by Connie Norwood. A talk-back will follow each performance and will be moderated by director, actor, author and STAGE Magazine critic Jack Shaw.
Founder and Producing Artistic Director Joseph M. Paprzycki states, “In an effort to envision how Tennessee Williams will translate to future audiences we are producing a festival with two very different takes on his work. ‘The Case of the Crushed Petunias’ is a short one-act that features young actors from local schools and universities designed to carry Tennessee into the next generation. The reading of ‘The Glass Menagerie’ with an African American cast will let the audience see how nontraditional casting affects the play. The talk back after each show will engage the audience and allow them to offer their own commentary on the legacy and future of Tennessee Williams.”
Performances will be held Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 p.m. and Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at the 96-seat Waterfront South Theatre located at 400 Jasper Street in Camden, New Jersey. The Waterfront South Theatre is a new 96-seat theatre located on the corner of 4th and Jasper Street in Camden, New Jersey. This 4,000 square foot facility was built by the Heart of Camden, a nonprofit housing organization in the Waterfront South section of the city.
