Regional Dance Company of the Week: American Repertory Ballet

BroadwayWorld.com, the largest theatre site on the Internet, is thrilled to announce a new feature to its comprehensive regional coverage - the Featured Regional Dance Company of the Week! Much like we do with our featured Regional Theaters, each week, we will bring you a story on a regional dance company in one of our coverage cities.

This week's featured Dance Company is the American Repertory Ballet in New Jersey!

Read about the company below, and see photos from past productions as well as a video of highlights from their 'Spring Into Love' performance at The Theatre at Raritan Valley Community College featuring Gerald Arpino's "Confetti", Douglas Martin's "Romeo and Juliet", Mary Barton's "Five Men and a Concerto" and Trinette Singleton's "Capriccios".
American Repertory Ballet is New Jersey's preeminent classical and contemporary ballet company. Known as the Princeton Regional Ballet Company from 1963 until 1990, the company's name was changed to more aptly reflect its commitment to American choreographers and dancers, and its renown. The Organization is comprised of three branches: American Repertory Ballet, the professional classical and contemporary ballet company; Princeton Ballet School, the Official School of American Repertory Ballet; and American Repertory Ballet's Access & Enrichment programming.

The Company's mission is to bring the joy, beauty, artistry and discipline of classical and contemporary dance to New Jersey and nationwide audiences and to dance students through artistic and educational programs. Its dancers are known for their versatility and powerful artistry. The performing company, founded in 1963 by Audrée Estey, is currently under the leadership of Artistic Director Douglas Martin. The company's rich history of repertory includes established masterpieces by distinguished American choreographers such as George Balanchine, Gerald Arpino, Alvin Ailey, Paul Taylor, and Twyla Tharp performed alongside cutting edge works by choreographers such as Val Caniparoli, Kirk Peterson, Dominique Dumais, Harrison McEldowney, Amy Seiwert, and more. ARB was voted NJ's Favorite Dance Company in the Jersey Arts People's Choice Awards in 2008 and 2011.

ARB's 'Spring Into Love' Performance Highlights

Founded in 1954 by Audrée Estey, Princeton Ballet School is one of the nation's largest and finest non-profit dance schools. Its mission is to create and train professional dancers and to provide age and developmentally appropriate dance classes for students ranging from recreational beginners to professional artists. Through the study of classical ballet, Princeton Ballet School students develop self-esteem, self-discipline, and a strong fitness level that will provide a powerful edge in any future endeavors.

American Repertory Ballet's Access & Enrichment mission is to expose New Jersey communities to the art form of dance, as active participants and informed observers, and to develop life-long dance enthusiasts. The Organization's Access & Enrichment programs consist of DANCE POWER, DANCE POWER Scholars, On Pointe, ARB's Curriculum based Residences, School-Time Matinees and Educational Assembly programs, as well as Master Classes, Workshops, Residencies, and Professional Development activities.
