Israel has always been effective at generating headlines, and it's amazing how such a small country, barely the size of New Jersey, has become accustomed to receiving such a considerable amount of media attention.
Lately, Israel has been drawing a new kind of attention in the form of young, hot Israeli talent: Supermodel Bar Refaeli grazing the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, Actress Ayelet Zurer starring in such films as Angels and Demons, Munich and Vantage Point with some of Hollywood's biggest stars, and singer/songwriter Yael Naim's single "New Soul" debuting on the top of the charts, making her the first Israeli solo artist to have a top ten hit in the United States. Americans are staring to notice a different side of Israel they haven't been exposed to before and while Israel is certainly a hot topic; it seems that the talent it produces is even hotter.
On October 21st at 8pm, NYC will get to sample a wide and entertaining variety of the current crop of Israeli talent. ISRAMERICA, a one night only special live event presented by Playline Productions, will feature over twenty artists, including music groups, stand-up comedians, actors, dancers, and filmmakers.
Featured artists and performers include world renowned Salsa Dancer Shani Talmor (who has previously danced for Jennifer Lopez), rapper Rabbi Darkside (who has appeared on MTV), comedian Myq Kaplan (who will be appearing on Comedy Central later this year), up and coming music group Tree of Mind, world renowned opera singer Iris Karlin, and celebrated filmmaker Yael Shulman (who's film Rock and Water was screened at the Cannes Film Festival in 2008).
ISRAMERICA was created by Sivan Hadari and will be directed by Michelle Slonim. Hadari (who will be performing at the event) and Slonim both appeared this summer in the much buzzed about New York Fringe Festival production of Sex and the Holy Land which was also a part of the Fringe Encore Series. The public is also invited to a free mixer event before the performance beginning at 7:30pm.
ISRAMERICA will take place at 8pm on Wednesday, October 21st at 8pm at the Sage Theatre, located at 711 Seventh Avenue (at 48th Street).
