McCarter LAB Fall Festival 2010 Announces Readings And Special Events 10/27-11/5

Join some of the most talented playwrights of the American theater during the McCarterLab fall festival 2010, October 27 through November 5, to hear their newest plays aloud in this series of unstaged readings and special events. All events are free, but seating is limited and reservations are encouraged. To reserve seats, call (609) 258-2787.

All readings will begin at 7pm in The Room of McCarter's Berlind Theatre.

The festival kicks off with the always popular In The Writers Voice on Wednesday, October 27. This is an extraordinary opportunity is a rare glimpse into the creative process as writers and composers read and perform excerpts from their works-in-progress.

On Thursday, October 28 will be a reading of Smart People, a new play by Lydia Diamond, directed by Emily Mann. Diamond's play Stick Fly had its East Coast premiere at McCarter in 2007.

The McCarterLab will continue with Christopher Durang, one of America's most hilarious, thought-provoking, and inventive playwrights, presenting an evening of excerpts of two of his current works-in-progress on Wednesday, November 3.

The festival will conclude with Elijah, a new play by Michael Mitnick, directed by Will Frears on Friday, November 5. A graduate of the Yale School of Drama, Mitnick is currently working on commissions from Denver Center Theatre Company and Manhattan Theatre Club.

Under the auspices of the McCarterLab, writers, composers, and directors develop new plays and musicals through commissions, workshops, readings, and other unique programs. Since 1990, McCarter has produced 48 new plays from leading and emerging American Playwrights, including Edward Albee, Eric Bogosian, Steven Dietz, Christopher Durang, Beth Henley, Tarell Alvin McCraney, Theresa Rebeck, and ReGina Taylor, among many others. Our multi-faceted, highly customizable approach has made McCarter one of the foremost theaters in the nation for the development of new plays and musicals.
