Luna Stage Announces 2013-14 Season: World Premiere of THE HIGH WATER MARK, MASTER HAROLD & More

The 2013-2014 Luna Stage Mainstage season includes The World Premiere of The High Water Mark, a new comedy by Ben Clawson, a revival of "Master Harold"...and the boys by Athol Fugard, and the New Jersey professional premiere of Marisol by José Rivera.
The High Water Mark (World Premiere)The High Water Mark, the world premiere of a new comedy by Ben Clawson, the author of Luna's 2011 world premiere of The Dangers of Electric Lighting is about Janet and Lily, two recently estranged friends brought back together late one night through circumstances and desperation. Wine is poured and secrets revealed as these two women navigate the night, middle age, and the roads that lie ahead. The High Water Mark runs October 10th through November 10th. The production is directed by Luna's Artistic Director Cheryl Katz.
Cheryl Katz has served as Luna's Director of Play Development for the past ten years and as Associate Artistic Director for the past two seasons. On Luna's Mainstage, she has directed the world premieres of The Man in Room 306 by Craig Alan Edwards,The Fastest Woman Alive by Karen Sunde, Mercy and the Firefly by Amy Hartman, and most recently, Carnaval by Nikkole Salter. The 2013-2014 season will be her first as Artistic Director.
In commemoration of the 20th anniversary of Freedom Day in South Africa, Luna's 2013-2014 season continues with a revival of "Master Harold"...and the boys, Athol Fugard's searing story of a young boy coming of age in the culture of apartheid. "Master Harold"...and the boys will run January 30th through March 2nd. The production is directed by Reginald L. Douglas.
Reginald L. Douglas is the 2050 Directing Fellow at New York Theater Workshop. He was the inaugural Van Lier Directing Fellow at the Lark Play Development Center (2010-2012), and a finalist for the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation's Gielgud and Ockrent Fellowships. Douglas has directed extensively throughout New York at venues including Culture Project, Access Theater, LaMaMa/Fringe, Harlem School of the Arts, and many others, and regionally at McCarter Theatre, Luna Stage, and the DC Black Theater Festival.
Luna's 2013-2014 season closes with the New Jersey professional premiere of Oscar-Nominee (The Motorcycle Diaries) José Rivera's powerful and poetic Marisol, an urban fantasy about a young Latino woman struggling to find safety in a world fraught with danger. In the magic realism style of his mentor Gabriel García Márquez, Rivera depicts a New York filled with golf-club wielding assailants, extras from the movie Taxi Driver, angels in leather jackets, and extinct apples; he urges us to recover our long-lost compassion for our fellow man and to save our world from the brink of destruction. Marisol runs April 10th through May 11th. The production is directed by Alex Correia.
Alex Correia served as Resident Director at INTAR Theatre in New York City from 2007 to 2009 and Director of INTAR's Actors Collective from 2006 to 2009. He has developed new plays at INTAR, The Lark Play Development Center, the MFA Dramatic Writing Program at New York University, and the MFA Playwriting Program at Hunter College. Correia holds a BFA in Acting from Marymount Manhattan College and is a graduate of The Juilliard School Directing Program, where he received the three-year Andrew W. Mellon Directing Fellowship.
