USDA Rural Development State Director Howard Henderson announces Eagle Theatre, Inc. in Hammonton, Atlantic County will receive a total funding package worth $594,000 through the Community Facilities program to finance and improve the overall operations of this 6,000 square foot facility. The State Director made the announcement during his visit to the facility. Also in attendance were representatives of the Eagle Theatre Board of Directors, Hammonton Mayor Steve DiDonato, and Daniel Stapelkamp representing the Office of Senator Robert Menendez.
The Eagle Theatre is a non-profit performing arts venue located in the Town of Hammonton. Built in 1914, this historic building was once a silent movie theatre house which closed in the late 1920’s.
With our support, the Eagle Theatre is able to preserve this historic building and breathe new life into a budding Art District in downtown Hammonton. By providing workshops and training courses, Eagle Theatre will also help local artists realize their dream in the theater, performing arts and entertainment industries. This playhouse will also provide local residents and surrounding region professional live theatre productions and music as well as business opportunities.
“This project represents continuing efforts by the Obama Administration to help create jobs while helping residents in rural communities,” Henderson said. “Since 2009, our agency has invested over $850 million in loans and grants throughout the Garden State.”
USDA, through its Rural Development mission area, administers and manages more than 40 housing, business and community infrastructure and facility programs. These programs are designed to improve the economic stability of rural communities, businesses, residents, farmers and ranchers and improve the quality of life in rural America.
