The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey announced today it will bring international bestselling author Christopher Moore (Fool, Lamb, A Dirty Job, You Suck) to Madison for an exclusive presentation -- Knaves, Thieves and Treachers: An Evening with Christopher Moore -- on November 19 at 7:30 p.m. at The F.M. Kirby Shakespeare Theatre. The one-night-only event benefits The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey's artistic programs and features a conversation with Christopher Moore, a question and answer session with the audience, book signing opportunities, and special readings from Moore's latest novel Fool by members of The Acting Company of The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey. Tickets are $30 and may be purchased by calling the box office at 973-408-5600 or online at www.ShakespeareNJ.org. Books will be available for purchase at the event.

Moore is the author of several novels including Fool (published by HarperCollins), an irreverent retelling of William Shakespeare's King Lear from the perspective of Pocket - the Fool. Described as a "twisted and insanely funny tale of a moronic monarch and his deceitful daughters...as seen through the eyes of a man wearing a codpiece and bells on his head," the critically acclaimed novel was called "manic, masterly mix-winning, wild and something today's groundlings will applaud" by Publishers Weekly.

The Christian Science Monitor said of Fool "it's hard to resist so gleeful a tale of murder, witchcraft, treason, maiming and spanking..."

"Even though it's written as a novel, Fool has its roots in theater and I've always thought it would find a place there. I'm thrilled to be part of that process," said Moore.

Christopher Moore is the New York Times bestselling author of a dozen novels, including the international bestsellers, Lamb and A Dirty Job. His books have been translated into over twenty languages. He was born in Toledo, Ohio and grew up in Mansfield, Ohio. His father was a highway patrolman and his mother sold major appliances at a department store. He attended Ohio State University and Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara. He moved to California when he was 19 years old and lived on the Central Coast until 2003, when he moved to Hawaii. Before publishing his first novel, Practical Demonkeeping in 1992, he worked as a roofer, a grocery clerk, a hotel night auditor, and insurance broker, a waiter, a photographer, and a rock and roll DJ. Moore has drawn on all of these work experiences to create the characters in his books.

Creating a truly unique event, some of The Shakespeare Theatre's favorite actors will be on hand to read passages from Moore's hit novel Fool with commentary from the author. "Our actors will lend something very special to this intimate session with the world-renowned Christopher Moore," said Bonnie J. Monte, artistic director of The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey. "We are honored to have Mr. Moore here and to be able to present this unique event for his fans and for our patrons."

"As I was writing Fool, I was hearing each character's voice as if read by a real actor, I'm thrilled to be able to participate in a reading where that can actually happen," Moore added.

Knaves, Thieves and Treachers: An Evening with Christopher Moore contains mature language and is recommended for ages 18 and over. Tickets may be purchased by calling the box office at 973-408-5600 or online at www.ShakespeareNJ.org. Books will be available for purchase at the event.
